Membership Categories
The Institute of Human Resource Management offers various membership categories designed to accommodate individuals and organizations at different stages of their professional journey. The categories are as follows;
1.Student Membership
Overview
Student Membership is designed for individuals pursuing studies in Human Resource Management who wish to begin their professional journey early. It provides access to professional resources, networking opportunities and industry events while preparing students for successful careers in HR.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
- Be enrolled in a recognized institution.
- Must be pursuing Human Resource Management.
- Must be currently enrolled in a recognized university, college, TVET institution or other accredited learning institution.
- Must be 24 years of age or below, having enrolled directly into the course being pursued immediately after completing high school.
- Membership shall remain valid for as long as the person remains a student in the approved program and shall automatically exit this category upon completion of the course.
Student members shall not:
- Vote in Institute elections.
- Hold elective office in the Institute.
- Be issued with a practicing certificate.
- Represent themselves as registered HR professionals solely by virtue of Student Membership.
- Use the category as proof of professional qualification or competence to practice HR independently.
Requirements
Applicants should submit:
- National ID or Passport.
- Passport-size photograph.
- Student identification card
- Confirmation letter.
- Academic transcripts.
Fees
- Subscription Fee-1000
Reference Number
All Student Members shall be assigned a reference number beginning with the prefix SN001.
2.Young Professional Membership
Overview
The Young Professional Membership category is designed for recent graduates and early-career Human Resource practitioners who are transitioning from academic study into professional practice.
Qualifications
- Must have graduated from a recognized university, college, TVET institution or other accredited institution.
- Must be 27 years of age or below at the time of application.
- Must remain in this category for a maximum of two years, counted from the official date of graduation or conferment of award, after which the member shall exit the category.
- Must have completed a program in Human Resource Management.
- Must have already graduated and obtained the graduation certificate or completion letter prior to applying.
Fees
- Subscription Fee- Ksh. 1500
Reference Number
All Young Professional Members shall be assigned a reference number beginning with the prefix YP001.
Young Professional Members should not:
- Hold themselves out as fully registered HR professionals unless they meet the statutory requirements.
- Be issued with a practicing certificate solely based on Young Professional Membership.
- Vote in Institute elections unless the Council expressly provides otherwise.
- Hold elective office in the Institute.
- Remain in the category beyond two years after graduation.
3. Associate Membership
Overview
Associate Membership is intended for individuals who possess the required Human Resource qualifications and are building their professional careers in HR.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A Diploma in Human Resource Management or higher; OR
- A Degree in another discipline accompanied by a Human Resource qualification of not less than a Diploma.
- Applicants with less than 5 years of experience in HR.
Requirements
Applicants should submit:
- Certified copies of academic and professional certificates.
- National ID or Passport.
- Passport-size photograph.
- Updated Curriculum Vitae.
Note: All certificates submitted must be certified by the issuing institution or a practising Advocate.
Fees
- Application Fee - Ksh. 1000
- Entrance Fee - Ksh. 1000(paid after approval)
- Annual Membership Subscription - Ksh. 4000 (paid after approval)
4. Full Membership
Overview
Full Membership is intended for experienced Human Resource practitioners who meet the academic and professional requirements prescribed under the Human Resource Management Professionals Act.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Degree in Human Resource Management; OR
- A Degree in another discipline together with a Human Resource qualification not less than a Diploma.
- At least five (5) years of relevant Human Resource working experience.
Note: All certificates submitted must be certified by the issuing institution or an Advocate.
Fees
- Application Fee -1000
- Entrance Fee -1000(paid after approval)
- Annual Membership Subscription -4500 (paid after approval)
5. HR FIRM
Requirement
Applicants should submit the following:
- Copy of the certificate of registration or certificate of incorporation.
- CR12 showing the company's directors/shareholders.
- Copy of the company's KRA PIN/VAT Certificate.
- Memorandum and Articles of Association or the firm's Constitution (where applicable).
- Copy of the Title Deed or a Registered Lease Agreement for the business premises.
- A sketch map of the physical address area.
- Copy of a valid IHRM Practising Licence of the principal shareholder.
Application Process
- Complete the HR Firm application form.
- Attach all the required supporting documents.
- Submit the application for review to memebrship@ihrm.or.ke
- Pay the prescribed application fee after approval.
6. Fellow Category
The Fellow category is the highest grade of individual membership awarded by the Institute of Human Resource Management. It recognizes distinguished HR professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, extensive experience, and significant contributions to the HR profession in Kenya.
Qualifications
- Have a minimum of 15 years of progressive HR experience.
- Have served in management or strategic HR leadership roles for at least 10 years.
Note: Recognition is initiated by the IHRM Council.
