Partner(S) Contributions To The BCRUP Implementation Processes
The success of the Building Climate Resilience in Urban Poor (BCRUP) Programme is anchored in strong, strategic partnerships that bring together global expertise, regional leadership, financing, and community-level action. Our partners contribute across policy, finance, research, implementation, and advocacy to advance climate-resilient and inclusive urban development. Together, these partnerships ensure that BCRUP delivers coordinated, inclusive, and high-impact solutions that strengthen climate resilience for urban poor communities across Africa.
UN-Habitat
UN-Habitat provides technical leadership on sustainable urban development, supporting integrated planning, informal settlement upgrading, and climate-resilient housing approaches. The agency contributes normative guidance, global best practices, and capacity development to strengthen urban resilience frameworks across participating countries.
UCLG Africa
UCLG Africa anchors the local government perspective, ensuring that cities and counties are at the center of climate resilience action. Through political advocacy, peer learning, and coordination of local authorities, UCLG Africa strengthens subnational ownership and facilitates implementation of BCRUP priorities at the city level.
Commonwealth Secretariat
The Commonwealth Secretariat supports policy coherence, institutional strengthening, and access to climate finance for member states. Its contribution focuses on enhancing governance systems, supporting climate-resilient urban policies, and enabling partnerships to align BCRUP interventions with broader Commonwealth climate and development agendas
United Nations Economic Commission For Africa (UNECA)
UNECA provides regional policy analysis, economic research, and strategic guidance to align BCRUP with Africa's development priorities. The Commission supports evidence-based decision-making, regional integration, and alignment with continental frameworks such as Agenda 2063.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
UNEP contributes expertise on environmental sustainability, climate adaptation, and nature-based solutions. Its role emphasizes integrating ecosystem-based approaches, low-carbon pathways, and environmental safeguards into urban resilience planning and implementation.
AfDAN
AfDAN supports advocacy, knowledge exchange, and capacity development focused on Africa-led development solutions. The network strengthens partnerships, amplifies African voices, and promotes inclusive, climate-resilient urban development through dialogue and collaboration
Habitat For Humanity
Habitat for Humanity brings community-centered implementation experience, particularly in housing, informal settlement upgrading, and resilience-building at the household level. The organization supports practical solutions that improve living conditions for vulnerable urban populations while embedding climate resilience.
African Research And Impact Network (ARIN)
ARIN contributes research, data, and impact analysis to inform BCRUP interventions. By generating evidence and documenting lessons learned, ARIN supports learning, innovation, and continuous improvement across programme activities.
Green Climate Fund (GCF)
The GCF plays a critical role in mobilizing and catalyzing climate finance to support large-scale, transformative urban resilience investments. Its engagement enables access to concessional finance and supports the scaling up of climate adaptation and mitigation actions under BCRUP.
Global Environment Facility (GEF)
The GEF supports environmental sustainability and climate resilience through grant financing and technical support. Its contribution focuses on integrating global environmental benefits into urban development, including climate adaptation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable land use.
UN Office Of Disaster Risk Reduction
UNDRR contributes expertise on disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, and resilience planning. The office supports the integration of risk-informed approaches into urban development, ensuring that BCRUP interventions strengthen communities' capacity to anticipate, absorb, and recover from climate-related shocks.
