The Kenya Institute of Migration Studies (KIMS)

The Kenya Institute of Migration Studies (KIMS) is the Regional Centre of Excellence for Migration Studies in the Horn of Africa. KIMS established under section 4(2i) of The Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011 and is hosted at the Population Studies and Research institute (PSRI) of University of Nairobi (UoN); and KIMS is collaborating with Maastricht University Graduate School of Governance. KIMS combines academic excellence with valuable practical skills conducted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in the State-of-Art Forensic Laboratory and planned academic tours to selected IGAD member states and Institutions performing migration functions. KIMS is an accredited provider of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses to Law Society of Kenya (LSK) members.
The Kenya Institute of Migration Studies (KIMS) is a regional centre of excellence for post graduate in Migration Studies and Research in the East Horn of Africa. KIMS is programme in Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Department of Geography, Population & Environmental Studies, of University of Nairobi (UoN).
KIMS is “brainchild” of the Kenyan National Coordination Mechanism on Migration (NCM) Secretariat in the State Department of Immigration & Citizen Services.
The KIMS flagship project is the Postgraduate Diploma in Migration Studies (PgDipMS) launched in December 2018 and commence on 6th May 2019 to train migration practitioners. Has Implemented 4 cohorts.
