Regina Ombam

Principal Secretary for Trade, Ms.Regina Ombam, State Department for Trade.

She is a distinguished economist and public policy expert, she has extensive experience in economic modelling, trade policy, transport economics, health financing and strategic planning.

As PS for Trade, Ms. Ombam advances Kenya’s economic growth by spearheading policies and initiatives that stimulate enterprise development, create jobs and expand trade opportunities. She drives trade reforms, strategic partnerships and regional and global integration in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Ms. Ombam leads Kenya’s efforts to strengthen trade policy, expand export markets, promote value addition and enhance the country’s competitiveness in regional and international markets. In this capacity, she guides Kenya’s engagement in key regional and continental frameworks including EAC, COMESA and the AfCFTA.
As Kenya’s Chief Negotiator, Ms. Ombam leads the country’s participation in bilateral, regional and multilateral trade negotiations.

Previously, she was a Regional Health Financing Expert at the EAC Secretariat and has served in advisory roles with the Global Fund, World Bank and UNAIDS.She holds a BA in Anthropology and a MA in Economics from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University.
