The National Cotton, Textile and Apparel Policy, a turn around for Kenya

Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, has emphasized the critical role of the Cotton, Textile and Apparel Policy, (CTA), in revitalizing and transforming the cotton, textile, and apparel sector.

Kinyanjui noted that the policy positioned the country's Apparel industry at a  globally competitive edge for sustainability, in line with The BETA Plan.

The CS, who briefed the media on the CTA policy at a Nairobi hotel, highlighted the immense opportunities presented by the cotton, textile, and apparel value chain, which translated to enhanced farmer incomes, job creation and increased export revenues.

Also in attendance, Industry PS Dr Juma Mukhwana, emphasized that the legal, regulatory, and investment framework created by the Cotton, Textile and Apparel Policy, would unlock the sector’s full potential as it creates synergy between growers, processors and apparel producers, beyond Africa.

The National Cotton, Textile, and Apparel Policy, which is being validated, is designed to offer strategic guidance aimed at identifying current gaps in the sector and enhancing the understanding of the dynamic manufacturing environment. The PS noted that this policy will serve as a critical tool to streamline the country's cotton production processes while addressing long-standing challenges in the ginnery industry.
