Mr. Abubakar Hassan Abubakar

Mr. Abubakar Hassan Abubakar is the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Investment Promotion.

He is mandated with the promotion of both local and foreign private investment into the Kenyan economy.

At the State Department, Abubakar provides leadership in investment policy and strategies, promotes and oversights the development of special economic zones, and coordinates the transformation of the ecosystem supporting private sector development.

He also spearheads the development of the business reform agenda across government and champions automation and reengineering of Government business and service provision. Mr. Abubakar embodies the synergy of legal prowess, financial acumen and investment expertise gathered over the course of his work in the private sector.

His working journey has been marked with unwavering commitment to mobilizing capital for investments and protecting investors interests, while his mission is to ignite a transformative wave in the Kenyan economy in support of the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Prior to becoming the Principal Secretary, he worked at the Capital Market Authority as a senior manager in charge of investigations and enforcements.

He holds a degree in law from the University of Nairobi and an MBA in Strategic Management.
