1. Mass media
The Mass Media Services department comprises the Video, Radio and Publications Units. These units play a critical role in the dissemination of agricultural IEC materials to farmers, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies MDAs, as well as extension agents, community-based organizations CBOs, Non-Governmental Organizations NGOs, and the private sector, through traditional and emerging mass media platforms. The unit’s activities are; recording, filming, graphic design, editing and repackaging agricultural information materials into multi-media content for distribution using traditional and emerging media.
Video Section
The video production unit supports agricultural sector stakeholders in the production of high-quality agricultural audio-visual materials for use in various platforms.
Radio Unit
The Radio Production Unit supports agricultural sector stakeholders in the production of high-quality agricultural audio materials including full-length radio programs, Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and podcasts for broadcasting or sharing on audio platforms.
Printing and Publication
The printing and publications unit supports agricultural stakeholders with end-to-end printing and publications services including graphic design and layout, offset printing and digital printing. These include the production of books, brochures, and pamphlets among other agricultural print products
2. Agricultural Library Information
The role of Library Information Services (LIS) is to enhance the availability and accessibility of agricultural information in both print and electronic forms to users. The library has a special collection of monographs, serials, technical journals, CD-ROM databases and policy papers on agriculture and related subjects.
3. Kenya Agricultural Documentation (KADOC)
Agricultural Documentation (KADOC) is a unit of Agricultural Information Resource Centre (AIRC) that documents agricultural information and makes it easily available to various users.
The key mandate for KADOC is to make available to key players in the agricultural extension sector, the previously inaccessible extension documents on Kenyan Agriculture.
It achieves its stated objectives by undertaking the collection, organization, storage and dissemination of information which ranges from the unpublished literature in form of typed and cyclostyled reports, to the more advanced technical research reports and other non-conventional documents relating to Kenyan Agriculture.
4. AIRC Marketing and Outreaches
The unit is charged with business development through promotions of customer and partner relations.it undertakes market research for new products developments
5. Monitoring and Evaluation
The unit assists the organization to;
- Identify problems and their causes
- Suggest possible solutions to problems
- Raise questions about assumptions and strategy
- Pushes it to reflect on where it is going and how it is getting there
- Provides it with information and insight
- Encourages action on information and insight
- Increases the likelihood that a positive development difference will be made
Management tool to measure performance and level of attainment of AIRC strategic objectives over a given period of time.
Through this process, results and recommendations of the evaluation were communicated to various Unit heads and the management through which progress was reviewed, problems were identified at the planning and implementation stages and a room for adjustments was provided so that we were able to “make a positive difference”.
6. Administration
It comprises of the office of the Director and two Deputy directors, Accounts, Procurement and ICT units.
7. Training Department/Hospitality
This unit comprises of three sub units namely; Conferencing, Catering and accommodation. All the three sub units have complimentary roles to support training.
